Mega Evolution Chaos Rising

Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Chaos Rising

The Mega Evolution era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game is showing no signs of slowing down. Hot on the heels of Perfect Order, the next expansion is already on the horizon and it might be the most exciting one yet. Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution Chaos Rising launches worldwide on May 22, 2026, and if the hype around it is anything to go by, this is a set you won't want to sleep on.

What Is Chaos Rising?

Chaos Rising is the fourth expansion in the Mega Evolution block, following Ascended Heroes and Perfect Order. Like Perfect Order, it draws heavily from a Japanese release, this time the Ninja Spinner set, bringing the best of Japan's Pokémon TCG scene to the rest of the world.

The set's storyline centres on Mega Floette ex bringing turmoil to the streets of Lumiose City, with Mega Greninja ex stepping up alongside other powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon ex to ward off the growing threat. It's a dramatic, action-packed theme that translates beautifully into the card artwork.

What's in the Set?

Chaos Rising includes five Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, five Pokémon ex, 11 illustration rare Pokémon, 18 ultra rare Pokémon and Trainer cards, and six special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards.

The full card list contains 122 cards in total, with a Mega Hyper Rare of Mega Greninja ex sitting at the very top of the rarity ladder. For context, that's a tight, focused set, which is actually good news for collectors, as smaller sets typically mean better odds of hitting specific chase cards per box.

The Star of the Set: Mega Greninja ex

There's no question who this set belongs to. Mega Greninja ex frontlines Chaos Rising in a big way, with two of the top projected chase cards being secret rare variants of this single card.

Mega Greninja ex is a Water/Dark-type powerhouse that has been one of the most requested Mega Evolutions since the mechanic returned to the TCG. Beyond the collectible side, it's also genuinely strong competitively. Its Mortal Shuriken ability allows players to convert Water Energy from their hand into targeted damage counters placed on opposing Pokémon, giving skilled players a real board control advantage unlike anything currently in the format.

The special illustration rare version features rain-soaked Lumiose City artwork, full of life and vivid, high-contrast pastel-coloured swirls that make it one of the most visually striking chase cards of the entire Mega Evolution era.

Other Cards Worth Chasing

Mega Floette ex serves as the antagonistic cover star of the set, representing the opposing force to Greninja in the storyline. This Fairy-type brings support and healing capabilities that could make it a competitive staple.

The Mega Floette ex special illustration rare card art is dominated by the Eternal Flower, blocking out the sun and creating a kaleidoscope of glowing dust and sparkles, a breathtaking piece that properly captures the spectacle this Pokémon deserves.

Mega Dragalge ex introduces a disruptive Poison strategy by dramatically increasing Poison damage, and also features effects that can remove Tools and Special Energy from opposing Pokémon, creating significant tempo swings. If you enjoy playing control-style decks, Dragalge is the card to watch here.

The AZ's Tranquility special illustration rare Supporter card is also one to look out for, a somber card depicting AZ reunited with his Floette, connecting directly to one of the most emotional storylines in the entire Pokémon Legends: Z-A game.

What Are the Pull Rates Like?

Based on pull rate patterns established in Ascended Heroes and Perfect Order, a standard booster display of 36 packs should yield around seven to nine Pokémon ex cards, two full arts, one to two illustration rares, and a chance at a special illustration rare or Mega Hyper Rare.

Special Illustration Rares appear roughly once every 40 to 50 packs, while Mega Hyper Rares sit at approximately one per 60 to 80 packs, making them the hardest pulls in any given box and the ones that drive the most excitement when they land.

If you're chasing the Mega Greninja ex Mega Hyper Rare specifically, patience and volume are your best friends. Picking up a booster box gives you the best odds across a single purchase.

Is Chaos Rising Worth It?

For collectors, this is arguably the most collectible set of the Mega Evolution era so far. Greninja is one of the most beloved Pokémon in the entire franchise, and Ash's Mega Greninja played a huge role in one of Pokémon's most iconic anime seasons, continuing to be massively relevant as one of the franchise's more memorable characters. That cultural weight means the chase cards here will hold their value.

For competitive players, the new mechanics around Poison, board control, and Energy disruption add real strategic depth. Chaos Rising arrives after the 2026 Standard rotation, so its competitive impact should be evaluated within the post-rotation format, making it even more relevant for players building new decks from scratch.

For casual openers, the Lumiose City setting and Pokémon Legends: Z-A theming make every pack a visual treat. The illustration rares in this set are some of the best artwork the TCG has produced in years.

Whether you're after a single booster pack, an Elite Trainer Box, or a full display, Chaos Rising is shaping up to be the set that defines 2026 for Pokémon collectors across the UAE and the wider MENA region.
